I have the honour to apply for permission from the Right Honourable the Secretary of State to retire on pension from the Hongkong Civil Service on the ground of ill-health.

  1. I am at present at the above address and being treated there by Dr E. E. Lewis at a Nursing Home. I am not familiar with the routine prescribed for applications of this nature, but or rather I beg to say that I am prepared, when desired, to supply the Medical Adviser to the Colonial Office, with his views regarding my health, reasons for advising my retirement to Hongkong.
  1. If it is not necessary that I should be examined by the medical adviser to the Colonial Office, perhaps it may be possible to arrange with Dr Lewis to examine me at some time convenient to himself, as here I shall be under treatment for at least five weeks.
